My laptop died yesterday morning, thanks to Slick.
Ali had called me into the kitchen to show me something on her computer. I left my mug of coffee on the dining room table next to my computer. In the couple of minutes I was there, the cat decided to splash around in the mug of coffee, then walk across the laptop keyboard.
At first the touchpad started to act wonky, but I dried it off with a cloth and blew some canned air over it. That gave me control of the mouse, but then I realized the keyboard was soaked as well.
Attempts to clean and dry it were not so successful. The computer seems to think that various keys are permanently pressed, making the keyboard all but useless.
I can still open the browser and navigate around with the touchpad, but I am unable to type anything.
Ali has a spare wireless keyboard (French key layout), but it has a mini-DIN plug rather than a USB plug.
This morning, we contacted Toshiba service, and after convincing them I did have an extended warranty that covers accidental damage such as spills, they said they would dispatch a box for me to ship the laptop off for service.
I hope it is to some nearby location. If I have to send it to Japan, it might not get back here before I return to the U.S., in which case I will wait until I return home.
Ali has offered to let me use her computer to blog and check e-mail, but I am reluctant to do so. She is in the middle of some editing and writing jobs, and is still answering every job opportunity she comes across.
That stuff comes first.
I'm using her computer now while she is up the street taking some job training tests.
So, updates will most likely be few and far between for the foreseeable future.

I'm hoping for a quick turn around time - you will be sorely missed!

No adapters for the keyboard plugs?
Also, I once fixed a boombox that had been rain saturated by letting it take a spin in the dryer for an hour on low. We used the rack, so it wasn't tumbling, but it did the trick. Not that the electronics are all that sophisticated, but still.
Anyway, use Ali's machine when you can. And tell us what's going on!

Jeez, I'm so sorry about that. Cats are cute little furballs EXCEPT when they get into coffee! I hope you get your new laptop soon.
In other news - yayyy Toshiba!!! I've always said they make the best laptops. Warms my heart to hear yours is a Toshie :) lol

OH, how frustrating for you, and for us to miss out on your stories. (although I am dying of jealousy every time you describe a leisurely meal in a cafe!) Take care.
