Hello from Paris.
I got to the airport 2 hours prior to my flight this morning only to be informed that the flight had been overbooked and that I was on a waiting list. The nice lady at check-in tried everything to find a way for me to make it home today, but nothing worked.
So Air France asked me if I would accept a flight on Thursday morning direct to Cincinnati. They told me they would pay for a hotel room, lunch and dinner today and breakfast in the morning. The shuttle to and from the hotel is free as well.
To top it off, I also get my choice of $600 or 800€ in cash. I have a year to claim that. With the current exchange rate, I'll take the Euros.
So I ate a nice lunch at the airport, caught the shuttle to the hotel, checked in, called my sister to let her know to pick me up tomorrow in Cincinnati, talked to Alison, and bought some fairly cheap Internet access to post this entry and send some emails.
If everything goes as planned, I should land in Cincinnati around 2:20 tomorrow afternoon.
I'm going to have a cold beer and some dinner now. See you tomorrow afternoon.

Just like me getting stuck in Chicago. Enjoy the beer and your meal. Wish I was with you.

If you're not in a great hurry then it is really a rather grand deal to accept the benefits and take a later flight.

Smart choice, Allan! (especially the money and the cold beer)

A beer sounds good. You're such an enabler!

Money???!! COOL!!! It's like a freebie for your next flight...err...almost I think anyway. Still, that's fairly awesome for a bit of delay.
At least it happened on the way home instead of the way TO Alison :)

Well, at least you were well compensated for their error.
Safe voyage.
